Measuring Your Body: A Step to Step Guide
Preparation
Gather the Necessary Tools
- A tailor’s measuring tape
- A mirror
- Notepad to record your measurements
- A buddy if possible
Wear Appropriate Clothing
- Wear snug-fitting clothing, ideally undergarments (this will ensure accurate measurements as baggy clothing can lead to inaccuracies)
Measuring
Start with Posture
- Stand up straight in front of a mirror with your feet together and arms relaxed at your sides. Good posture ensures accurate measurements.
Chest/Bust
- Wrap the measuring tape around your chest or bust at the widest area without pulling too tight nor letting the tape sag. See level shown on the diagram
Waist
- Wrap the measuring tape around your natural waistline (typically the narrowest part of your torso) To locate it, bend to one side; the crease that forms is usually your natural waistline.
Height
Height
- Stand straight against a wall with your heels together and feet flat on the floor
- Mark the wall with a pencil or painters tape at the level of the highest point of your head
Repeat for Accuracy: If you are unsure about the accuracy, measure two or three times and take an average.
